This was a very sunny and warm vintage, and that extra solar energy is transmitted to this wine. The Quintodecimo 2015 Taurasi Riserva Vigna Quintodecimo is ample and generous with broad strokes of black cherry and dried blackberry. That thick and well-concentrated fruit is contoured and shapely, thanks to aromas of spice, leather and chewing tobacco. This is a generous and full-bodied wine, but any more ripeness would take it overboard. Exactly 2,013 bottles were made.
Luigi Moio makes some of the very best wines you will taste from Campania. This is a benchmark estate for the region and indeed for the country. After gaining his master's and PhD in agricultural science, with prolonged research in Burgundy, Professor Moio established this estate in 2001 in Irpinia. Today, it counts 30 hectares of land, including 22 hectares that are planted to vines. I absolutely recommend these excellent and exciting new releases from Quintodecimo. The estate produces six wines: three reds and three whites. All are truly excellent, as you can gather from my enthusiastic mid-90s scoring across the board.
