A truly exceptional wine, the 2016 Fiano di Avellino Exultet delivers varietal purity, intensity, depth and personality all in a single bottle. If you love the Fiano grape, as I do, you must try this standout expression. In fact, I feel the same way regarding all the mono variety wines made by Luigi Moio at Quintodecimo. The finish reveals growing complexity with aromas of white peach, honey, dried herb and crushed seashell. Some 22,666 bottles were made.
Luigi Moio makes some of the very best wines you will taste from Campania. This is a benchmark estate for the region and indeed for the country. After gaining his master's and PhD in agricultural science, with prolonged research in Burgundy, Professor Moio established this estate in 2001 in Irpinia. Today, it counts 30 hectares of land, including 22 hectares that are planted to vines. I absolutely recommend these excellent and exciting new releases from Quintodecimo. The estate produces six wines: three reds and three whites. All are truly excellent, as you can gather from my enthusiastic mid-90s scoring across the board.
